Volunteering

A lot of our Volunteering projects are taking place in local institutions on Chios Island. The public Nursery Schools, Kindergartens, Primary Schools and Special Education Schools, supporting people in poverty, people with fewer opportunities and youngsters from a marginalized community or at risk of facing discrimination don’t have the necessary staff and need a helping hand from the Volunteers. Especially nowadays, when the way we live, interact with others, work and learn have changed, the above mentioned institutions are in more need than they ever were, since they need to adapt to a new reality and they need to teach their students and residents how to adapt to this reality as well.
Due to the fact that the public authorities don’t have the capacity to provide this assistance, our ESC Volunteers, besides actively assisting the teachers and permanent staff of the schools on teaching students the protection measures they need to follow in order to keep themselves and the others safe (such us teaching them how to properly use a face mask), they have an active role in the educational procedure and realize Educational, Cultural, Youth, Environmental and Sport activities for the young people and children who are at the public Educational institutions of the Island’s villages, while encouraging the integration of the Emigrant or Refugee children who study there. In addition, we strongly support that one very good way to fight social exclusion and unemployment is teaching the young people who live in Chios Island how to work together, how to get past their cultural differences and at the same time educate them on Social awareness and inclusion, Culture, Sports, Environmental protection and awareness, Recycling etc.
Due to the bad financial situation of the local, public institutions and public schools and their difficulties in realizing Cultural, Educational, Environmental and Sports events, the local youngsters and students with less opportunities are deprived of the access to the best possible Education.
Besides all the negative effects that the lack of proper education creates, it also results to a high level of absenteeism, a lack of motivation to learn and in due course, leads to an increase of unemployment.
Our main aim is to equally provide young people and students with less opportunities with new foundations and equip them for their future.
