What is the European Solidarity Corps?
The European Solidarity Corps is the new European Union initiative which creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects in their own country or abroad that benefit communities and people around Europe.
You can register for the European Solidarity Corps when you are 17 years old, but you cannot start a project until you are over 18. European Solidarity Corps projects will be available to people up to the age of 30 years old. After completing a simple registration process, European Solidarity Corps participants could be selected and invited to join a wide range of projects, such as helping to prevent natural disasters or rebuild afterwards, assisting in centres for asylum seekers, or addressing different social issues in communities.
Projects supported with funds by the European Solidarity Corps can last from two to twelve months. They will usually be located within the European Union Member States.
Since 1998, we hosted many young people in Short-term and Long-term EVS, Leonardo, Amicus and other kinds of volunteers, cultural, educational, environmental and sports projects.
Under guidance and support, our European volunteers, are offering voluntary services to several local institutions (Nursery Schools, Kindergartens, Primary Schools and Special Education Schools) by taking part -as assistant teachers in the educational procedure and realizing environmental, cultural and sport activities. In addition, they assist in offering help to the Elderly and people in poverty institutions of the Island. Throughout the year, our volunteers realize New Technologies seminars to educators, parents, youngsters and children including youngsters with fewer opportunities and those who come from a marginalized community or are at risk of facing discrimination. During the summer period, the members of our Organization with the assistance of our volunteers, are realizing our very popular Summer activities.
Our volunteers are responsible for the technical part, the sound and in general are managing the on-line radio station www.chiosradio.gr, which has as main subject the promotion of the European identity, multiculturalism, social inclusion, education, environmental awareness, culture and sports.
They use the cooperating and non-formal learning process, as well as the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
They are publishing their activities at the web site http://www.4youth.eu/.
