Outdoor Activities

-During summer break, when educational institutions are closed, volunteers together with the Hosting Organization will organize activities that have educational character in controlled outdoors environments such as school yards. These activities might include traditional Greek children’s games where English words could be integrated such as numbers or the English Alphabet. Volunteers can take the initiative and after discussing it with members of our organization to include a traditional Children’s game from their own culture. The impact on the children is obvious after the first two weeks when the activities become the meeting place and time for the children of the neighborhood and parents come and go feeling safe and watching their children having a fun and creative summer. The activities might also involve small contests with drawing or other games. During these activities, volunteers play games and do other activities that aim the engaging of the young children of the neighborhood to pass their afternoons with games and activities that have a creative and educational character. The activities also have the character of inclusion, meaning children that are more shy or different age are encouraged to take part. Some of the main targets of these activities is to teach children about team spirit, inclusion, eradicate bullying and xenophobia. Volunteers through these activities help the local youth to broaden their minds while having fun.
Except of taking active part in organizing and implementing the activities, volunteers also have the responsibility that all children are safe and no child feels excluded or misbehaved. All those activities will be realized under the constant guidance and assistance from the team of the H/O, the mentors and the teachers and permanent staff of the Cooperating Educational Institutions and will strengthen the Social Awareness and Solidarity to everyone involved such us to the volunteers themselves, the young people, the children and the teachers of the schools, as well as to the parents and hence to the local community.
